YORK FESTIVAL OF THE RIVERS 2012
INVITATION TO THE ANNUAL YORK RIVER FESTIVAL CANOE RACE SATURDAY 21st JULY Mass start: 2.00 p.m.
This event is open to paddlers of all ages and abilities and all types of canoe: Canadian canoes, general purpose, play boats, sea kayaks, river racers, K1, K2. Bring your family and friends with their canoes and enjoy a great day out in York. Three courses for competitive and recreational canoeists. Everyone is sure to enjoy paddling this historic city centre course when the riverside will be crowded with tourists. Spectators can walk each side of the river.
COURSES Participants can choose between three different distances all on flat water. Starting and finishing at the Millennium Bridge.
Short to Skeldergate Bridge (round first bridge & return, 2500 metres) Medium to Railway Bridge {through 4 bridges & return, 5000 metres) Long to Clifton Bridge (through 5 bridges and return, 7500 metres)
LARGE PRIZE LIST 22 hand carved trophies & cups for different categories, covering all three courses. Prizewinners are restricted to one trophy only (excluding team trophies) ENTRY FEES (All entries on the day) Single paddlers: £ Double kayaks and Canadian crews: £
REGISTRATION: 12.00 - 1.40 p.m. at the Millennium Bridge RACE BRIEFING: At 1.50 p.m. on the river near Millennium Bridge MASS START: At 2.00 p.m. (all competitors start together) PRESENTATIONS: 4.00 p.m. approx. near Millennium Bridge.
SAFETY: Safety canoes will be marshalling the courses TOILETS: 400 metres away in Rowntree’s Park REFRESHMENTS: Cold drinks will be provided after the race CAR PARKING: In Butcher Terrace field, next to Millennium Bridge CAMPING: Camping facilities for competitors near the start

Directions to the start by road Enter York on the Bishopthorpe Road via A1, A64, A19 etc. The signs for York Racecourse will take you in the right direction. Look out for the former Terry's factory near the junction of Bishopthorpe road and Campelshon Road on the right (look for two shops on each side of the road. Butcher Terrace is cul-de-sac leading to Rowntree's Park and the Millennium Bridge. A gate will be opened so competitors can park on the grass alongside the river. |
